Search Engine Optimization

search engine optimization

It's no longer enough just to have a beautiful website. These days you've got to use great content and optimization practices to convert searches → traffic → sales!

search engine optimization pays! The art/science of optimizing your website's landing page(s) is a fairly tedious and time-consuming process, with equal parts research, content tweaking and link building. We take advantage of software to make the research more efficient, but improving your position in organic (non-paid) search results is a slow but steady process, best accomplished in small amounts each month. When too many changes are made in a short time, it's difficult to tell exactly what worked. Or didn't.

You know your business–We know ours

This process works best when you're involved. We'll need your input and knowledge of the particulars of your business to focus our efforts and maximize results.

We've got a plan!

Monthly SEO with no commitment:

In several hours each month, we will help you raise your profile in organic search results by some or all of the following means:

  • Help with choices of keywords and phrases to target
  • Analyzing the strategies of the top competitors for these keywords
  • Adding or re-writing content around these keywords
  • Tweaking titles and descriptions, image and media tags
  • Adding or editing listings in Google Places and local directories
  • Finding potential valuable backlink partners
  • Establishing a customized presence on Facebook® and Twitter®
  • Composing and uploading XML sitemap, robots.txt and 301 redirect files
  • Analyzing details of traffic to your website
  • Running weekly ranking checks for you and ten of your competitors

baseline seoWe'll start with a "baseline" of where you are, develop a game plan, and apply it month by month as we watch the results. We'll report to you each month on what we did and why. Pay each month in advance and simply stop if you are not satisfied.

From the Beginning

Search engine optimization should be taken into consideration from the beginning of a new website project, and should be an important part of any ongoing maintenance. SEO takes long-term strategy, continous effort and patience in order to realize maximum benefit. Search engine optimization is never finished!

Elements of SEO

In brief, high organic rankings can be achieved through well-written, relevant, fresh, frequently-updated content presented in an organized and clear navaigation system, along with a collection of related outbound and inbound links.

Content is King!

We'll write content for your visitors, not search engines. Well-written, clear, informative text will keep visitors interested and coming back, and provide reasons for other websites to link to yours.

Keywords

We'll use software to speed up the process of finding the most efficient keywords and phrases to target for each page, then write content, titles, descriptions and headings around them and variations of them. High-quality, organized, keyword-rich text is the single most important element in search engine optimization!

Link Strategy

We'll help you find other relevant websites to exchange reciprocal links, as all major search engines use website popularity to determine your importance for a certain query. Inbound links also give the crawlers additional gateways into your website. Related links are considered endorsements or “votes”.

Image & Media Tags

We'll take advantage of optimizing alt and title tags on each linked media resource by including primary and secondary keywords.

Site Analytics Tools

We'll make use of Google's free, comprehensive tool set to analyze all aspects of traffic to your website and make adjustments based what is working and what is not. Google offers wonderful online resources for search engine optimization.

Social Media Integration

Facebook and Twitter have become impossible to ignore in a well-rounded SEO program. Each has proven to generate interest and traffic to your business website.

Think Local

There are many specialized local websites and directories (many free!) that can direct searchers to your website. We'll find the ones that are working for your competition and help you get listed.

XML Sitemap

We'll compose and upload a current sitemap.xml to ensure that all crawlers find all content of your website, and a robots.txt file to steer them away from unimportant or private content. We can even set suggested indexing priorities for each page.

Content Management and Blog Platforms

We have built many unique business websites on the WordPress™ system, which allows website owners to manage content and post fresh material in the form of blogs. If used properly, this can supply a steady stream of new content to attract web crawlers and spiders.

And Much More

There are many books available on the subject of search engine optimization, and many have more than 300 pages. We’ve hit on the most important points here in one page, but there are many more aspects of SEO to consider:

  • Valid HTML & CSS
  • Text links & anchor text
  • Spell check
  • Online directories
  • Vertical search
  • Off-site search
  • Universal, Personal search

FAQSearch Engine Optimization FAQ:

Question: Answer:
What is SEO? SEO is the art/science of optimizing a web page or website in order to rank well in search engine results for certain key words or phrases.
What do you mean by "organic" ranking? Organic is a term used to describe those search results that have not paid for position, either through advertising or pay-per-click programs with the major search engines. Research has suggested that the organic results may be trusted more, as they have usually gained their rankings the hard way.
Why is my website not showing up in the search results? Most commonly, a website was not built using the proper optimization practices. Other reasons include the use of Flash®, which most search engines cannot read or index; site navigation relying upon JavaScript or PHP, which many search engines cannot follow.
Is this something I can do myself? Of course, if you have the time, patience and basic knowledge of HTML. Most website owners are much too busy managing their businesses to really devote the effort to optimizing, tracking and analyzing results. For those who want to jump in, there is a wealth of information on the web and in print, but it is a fairly tedious, time-consuming process.
What will you do to improve my search rankings? We begin with a lot of research. Using software and online services, we put together a list of keywords and phrases that we need to focus your content and other elements around. Then we closely analyze your competition for those queries to see what is working for them. We apply what we have learned in small monthly doses and track results.
How long does this take? With SEO, you are never really finished. We use a monthly, no-commitment approach with our SEO clients. Depending upon the size and scope of the website, a typical agreement might be 4 to 8 hours of optimization each month. It is always best to do a little research and make a few small adjustments, then wait a week or two to see the results. If we try too much at once, we're not sure what worked, or didn't.
Can you guarantee first page results? No. Even the leading SEO professionals have no control over any search engine. Typically, anyone who guarantees such results wants to tie you and your credit card to a long-term commitment. Be careful!
